How Low-Temperature Parts Cleaning Saves More Than Energy

Date: 17 March 2026 | Category: Other articles

Standard high-temperature parts cleaning, although effective, can come with significant energy consumption. As industries strive to lower costs and hit sustainability goals, the need for innovative solutions becomes clear.

We’re introducing a revolutionary parts cleaning solution, Kleen35®, which allows you to drop your cleaning temperature from 65°C down to 35°C, all with the same cleaning results. The economic benefits stretch far beyond energy savings to deliver both immediate and long-term savings.

Immediate Savings

1. Energy reduction

Our laboratory and customer tests show that turning down the heat on machine-based parts cleaning from 65°C to 35°C can deliver huge savings. Typical use of just one mid-sized automatic parts washer could save 4675 kWh a year.1 That’s equal to powering 54 LED lightbulbs all day for a year.

Across our global customers, savings could reach up to 31 million kWh; that’s equal to powering 11,481 average homes a whole year.2

2. Energy Costs

Cost savings based on this lower energy use build to significant amounts over time. Based on average uses, savings could reach £1,225 a year per machine 1. That means, collectively our customers can save up to £8 million a year 2 just by switching to low temperature cleaning.

3. Productivity Gains

When washing at lower temperatures, your machine takes less time to heat up and once clean, it takes no time for your parts to cool down. That means you can get to work right away. No cooling delays lead to more consistent and efficient cleaning cycles.

Our laboratory tests show machine heat up times are on average 55% faster when washing at 35°C with Kleen35® . Low temperature cleaning also reduces the amount of steam coming from your parts washer machine. Our laboratory tests show that switching to 35°C cleaning emits 5x less steam versus washing at 65°C. This makes it safer and more comfortable for your team.

HOW MUCH COULD YOU SAVE?

Long-Term Wins

1. Parts Replacement & Time

Machine components experience more thermal stress when washed at high temperatures. For example, in industries such as metalworking and machinery manufacturing, components like hydraulic seals, O-rings, and gaskets are susceptible to damage from high temperatures. The degradation of these components can lead to leaks, reduced efficiency, and costly repairs.

As parts last longer when washed at cooler temperatures, maintenance costs can be significantly reduced over time.

2. Regulatory Fines

Sustainability non‑compliance is a serious commercial risk for manufacturing and engineering companies. Regulators are tightening the screws and failing to hit emissions rules can run to tens of millions in fines, especially for carbon‐intensive businesses exposed to EU ETS, CBAM, or reporting fines.

There is no single fix to meeting sustainability goals; it must be a patchwork of effort with energy efficiency playing an important role.  Kleen35® can save 367 kg of CO₂ per machine, per customer. That’s equal to each customer saving 50 trees a year.1

Across all our customers, this switch could save 7,200 tonnes of CO₂ annually. That’s equal to saving enough trees to fill 920 football pitches.2

What you guys are changing with the machines is helping our sustainability project, which is amazing. It’s helping us be greener and work towards the future.”

3. Lost business

Operating sustainably can encourage customers and partners to engage with you and make it more likely they choose you in favour of companies that continually ignore sustainability.

In some cases, businesses that do ignore sustainability may incur higher borrowing costs as lenders increasingly factor environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance into credit risk assessments. These impacts can erode market share, reduce growth opportunities, and make long-term competitiveness much harder.

Conclusion: A Cleaner, More Efficient Future

Low-temperature cleaning offers numerous advantages, including substantial cost, energy, CO₂ and productivity improvements in the short term,  and better parts lifetime, compliance and potential growth over the long term.
